As part of our goal to provide a well-rounded education, St. Catharine School offers many enrichment activities and extra-curricular programs. The list below provides some insight into our varied offerings.

Students may elect to sign up for:
Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Power of the Pen (Creative Writing), Bible Bowl, Dance (Ballet, Tap and Jazz), Speech, Music Lessons, Student Council, Altar Attendant, Mass Lector, Children’s Choir, Skating Parties, Fun Nights, Young Authors, and Junior High Dances.

Power of Pen (7th and 8th grade)
Preparation for this annual writing competition begins each Fall in English class, where top-level students are identified as candidates for the official local competition, which is held on a Saturday. At the competiton, students compete against their peers from other participating area schools. Students who excel at the local level advance to the regional and state competitions.

Speech Contest (7th and 8th grade)
One of our premier annual events. Students select a topic, research the topic, and prepare a planned and thoughtful speech for competitive honors. Traditionally, St. Catharine students are among the top winners this event.

Social Studies Fair/Science Fair (7th and 8th grade)
This graded event is one of the most important academic requirements for the 7th and 8th grade students. Emphasis is placed on preparing the students for high-school and college project methodologies [project management, time management, writing, analytical skills, and presentation heavily emphasized] and working collaboratively in teams. The Fair theme alternates each year [one year it’s Social Studies Fair, the next year it’s Science Fair] in order to provide a broader and deeper level of learning.

Bible Bowl (6th grade)
Hosted by St. Ignatius school, the Bible Bowl is the culminating event for students who have invested their personal time in studying 10 books from the Bible. Similar to “It’s Academic” in format, the Bible Bowl is one of our most popular enrichment activities.

Camp Campbell Guard (6th grade)
This overnight, chaparoned event enables our 6th grade students to spend 3 days at YMCA Camp Campbell Guard experiencing the outdoors, re-living historical events, and creating lasting friendships with their fellow students.

Young Authors (5th grade)
With a focus on developing improved personal writing skills, students work on a series of essays throughout the school year. They select a single essay from their portfolio and read their work for honors and recognition.

Spelling Bee (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades)
Can you spell time-honored tradition? Our students regularly rank at the top of the class in the annual Cincinnati Post Spelling Bee. We think that spells s-u-c-c-e-s-s.

Student Council (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades)
Remember making signs and campaign promises? Our Student Council is closely advised by our principal and each year they focus on their ability to influence positive change within the school and the community by promoting student leadership. Representatives are elected from each home room; 8th graders hold the officer positions.
